Cheap Hearing Aids vs Custom Ones?
Question by Wifix: Cheap Hearing Aids vs Custom Ones?
We are planning on buying a pair of hearing aids for a relitive in a different country (not sure if they offer hearing aids there…) so we were wondering what to get. I know you need an appointment and tests to make a custom one so that is not an option. We have found some for online and we are considering buying one of those but are they decent quality? Also is there somewhere we can buy and out of the box pair in Toronto (for less then 500$) without going online?

Hi Wyfix,
My mother in law had two “special tuned” digital hearing aids. (One at 00 and one was 00). One of them went out and had to be sent off for repairs so I bought one of those amplifiers for her to use while hers was gone. It came with several rubber earpieces one of which fit her ear. The idea was for her to “get by” until the repaired aid was returned.
She got along fine and when her digital aid came back she put it back in & couldn’t hear as well. Long story short we wound up getting another one and now she hears better with two “Ear Amplifiers” then she did with 00 in hearing aids.
Here is the ones we got her – http://health-products.drleonards.com/Health-Products/Hearing-Aids/Personal-Sound-Amplifier-Sound-Amplifier/47498.cfm
It’s worth a try. Hers are, I guess, a couple years old & still working. At apiece you could afford a spare.
